1.) Be respectful of all customers, merchants and management at all times.
2.) Initiating or engaging in gossip, verbal arguments and fighting among merchants and vulgarity are NOT tolerated. If you have to ask if a word is vulgar, then it’s vulgar. All of these actions are considered by the Downtown Market to be unprofessional and immature. Merchants can and will be asked to pack their merchandise and leave the market over these issues. Do not engage in these activities, simply walk away and seek management for resolution.
3.) Always secure management approval for those products listed on the Policy and Procedure page as needing approval. If you do not, management will ask you to remove unapproved merchandise from the Market floor.
4.) Management reserves the right to ask merchants to remove any merchandise that is considered (by management) to be offensive or inappropriate. Do NOT challenge management if you are asked to comply.
5.) Confine your products to your space. Merchant’s products should never cross into another space or the walkways.
6.) Be polite and do not stand in other merchants spaces while customers are around.
7.) No loitering is allowed in other merchants booths after Market closes at 5pm.

1.) All Merchants are expected to be set up by 10:00am and must not leave prior to 5:00pm closing time. Late arrivals make the Market look unprofessional and covered merchandise is NOT safe if left unattended during regular Market hours.
2.) Inclement weather and closing notices will be posted on our FACEBOOK page and the home page of our website: www.DowntownMarketAsheville.com.
3.) All Merchants are responsible for all applicable sales taxes, licenses, permits, and privilege licenses regarding the sale of their products.
4.) Non-Merchant members are assigned 10’x10’ spaces and skirted tables on a first come, first-served basis ONLY. Preference is given to first, Member Merchants and second, 3-Day Weekend Merchants.
5.) Thursday afternoons from 1-4pm, merchants are allowed to come in to clean booths. Potential merchants can visit, view available spaces and speak with management one-on-one. Prepaid 3-day Merchants can load-in.
6.) The Downtown Market is NOT responsible for stolen or unattended merchandise.
7.) Any merchandise/booth space that is left unattended over a period of 14 days and it’s owner has NOT made prior arrangements with Management, is subject to be removed and stored by the Downtown Market.
SMOKING:
8.) The Downtown Market building is designated as No Smoking inside. Specified areas for smoking are located at the loading dock at the south end of the building and at the alcove area near the main office entrance at the east end of the building. Smoking in front of the entrance doors to the market is strictly prohibited. Place all cigarette butts into the proper container outside and not on the ground. Please do NOT put trash into the ashtrays provided.
ELECTRICITY:
9.) Booths with access to electricity are very limited and leased on a first come, first served basis for Member Merchants only. Use of two prong extension cords is not allowed. Three prong extension cords are only allowed if first approved by management. Beginning March 2010, there will be a $5 per day additional charge for booths who access electricity.
PARKING:
10.) Merchants are required to park in the covered space located underneath the Market building. To access, drive behind the Market building, located off of S. Ann Street. Merchants are NEVER allowed to park in the United Way parking lot. Also, remember if a merchant parks on S. French Broad, that is one less spot available to a customer. After all, aren’t the customers the real reason we are here?
11.) Unloading your goods may take place at the front entrance or the loading dock. You may temporarily park in front of the building while loading/unloading but please do not permanently park there as those spaces should be saved for customers. Disabled merchants are still required to park underneath the building, however notify management and merchant will be given a ride back to the front entrance to the building.
ON THE FLOOR:
12. All merchandise must be clean and odor-free. No merchandise can be displayed by lying out on the floor, in boxes or on blankets on the floor. Clothing must be hung or folded neatly and placed on your table. Keep booth spaces swept and free of debris.
13. Management reserves the right to ask a vendor to remove any item that is considered by management to be offensive. Do NOT challenge management if this is requested.
